Check that your
instructor has a green licence in the windscreen of the
car. This indicates they are fully qualified and on the
Driving Standards Agency Register of instructors. Pink licences
indicate a trainee who is not fully qualified. |
 |
Check that the Instructor's
Car has dual controls and is in good condition. Also make
sure a spare car is available in case of breakdown. |
 |
Don't assume the
cheapest lessons are the best. Find out if there are any
added-value benefits. Does the driving school offer discounts
for pre-payment, handouts or home-study material, and pass plus
tuition. Check out how long a "lesson" is. Some
driving schools may offer lessons that are not a full hour. |
 |
Check that your
instructor will help with the Theory Test. You'll have to pass
this before you can take your Practical Test. |
 |
Make sure your
instructor teaches and monitors your progress using the official
DSA
Syllabus. |
 |
Only buy a theory book
or CD that contains the official questions and answers. |
 |
Apply for your Theory
Test as soon as you start your lessons. |
 |
Be guided by your
instructor when to apply for your Practical Test (remember
you'll need to pass your Theory Test first). |
 |
Get ready for your
test by taking regular lessons with a qualified instructor (at
least an hour, but preferably two per week). Your instructor
will advise you on how much tuition you should need. |
 |
Make sure your tuition
car is available for a final lesson immediately before your test
by advising your instructor as soon as you get your test
appointment date. |
