Can I book a driving test before I pass my theory test?
No.
You must pass the theory test first.
Can I book multiple driving tests in case I fail the first one? No. You can only book one test at a time.
Can driving schools get earlier booking dates than the general
public?
No. Driving schools book driving tests in the same way you do. The
Driving Standards Agency does not reserve tests for driving
schools.
Does the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) have a quota of passes
and failures? The DSA says it doesn't have quotas. It (DSA) says if you
meet the standard then you'll pass. If the DSA worked to a quota
it would be fraud.
Does the pass rate vary much from year to year?
DSA
results show that despite the introduction of the Theory Test and
the Hazard Perception Test the average pass rate hardly varies
from one year to another. The pass rates at some test centres
rarely change. You can ask the DSA about the pass rate at your
chosen test centre.
Do I have to pass both parts of the theory test at the same
time? You do. Fail one part and you'll be forced to take both parts again.
Get it right the first time. It can become very expensive.
Is it true that some driving schools can actually test you and
issue you with a driving licence? No.
Only the DSA can issue a pass certificate.
I've heard a driving school say it can get me a test next week,
at any time I like. Is it possible?
Driving schools book tests in the same way as you do. We join the
same queue as you!
Is it true that the age for applying for a licence is being
raised to 18? No.
If I fail my driving test can I take another test the next day? No. There's a cooling off period. Currently this is 10 working
days. This gap is to allow for extra lessons to improve on
anything that caused you to fail.
I heard that a car sharing course is proved to be the best. Is
it true? I
don't know. I don't operate car sharing courses. I believe that
watching someone else drive does not teach you practical skills. I
believe "one to one" tuition is the best option. You're
unlikely to learn a practical skill by watching someone else.
I've heard about special learning techniques that teach me to
drive in half the time. Do they work? Not
sure! I use the old fashioned method! I teach you to drive. I
don't teach you how to pass a driving test. I don't do accelerated
learning courses. But I do offer lesson Handouts to help you
to remember what you have learned, and help you prepare for the
next lesson.
Why are your lessons more expensive than some driving schools,
and cheaper than others? I
set my prices according to the area in which you live - so that
the further I need to travel to get to you, or to get you to the
test area, the more you will have to pay. I also vary my
prices according to how busy I am, and how much work I am looking
for at the time. You will find many ways of reducing the
cost by viewing the Special Offers page.

How do I book a theory test? You
can book your theory test by calling 0870 0101 372, or at
www.dsa.gov.uk It can be a slow process, and it is a
national rate number. At
peak times you can re-dial many times before being connected.
I
prefer to recommend the DSA web site. You will need
to have your licence and payment card ready when you book.
How do I book a practical driving test? When
we agree that you are ready, I will offer to book the test for
you. This is a free service and you will also get 15 days in
which to pay for the test. I offer this as I have experience
of booking tests, and can ensure that you get the right date, time
and place! I have met people in Folkestone test centre that
have been booked for Buxton...
If you have to book your own test, then you must get my ADI number
first, and be aware that I may not be able to commit to every test
slot that may be offered to you.
Can I get a cancellation test appointment? Yes
you can! Simply call 0870 0101 372 and speak to the
automated system. You will need your booking reference and
theory certificate number. Please bear in mind that I may
not be free - so you should check with me prior to confirming the
new time.

Why is there such a long waiting list for Driving Tests? At
the moment, the Driving Standards Agency are reporting a national
average waiting time of 6 weeks. This is the national
average though, and it may be that you have to wait longer than
this.
We will regularly discuss booking your test and will aim to book
it in advance so that by the time the test day arrives, you will
be ready. We can always move it if we have to, such as if
either of us feels that you are not ready.
Is
the waiting time for a Theory Test as long as the Driving Test? Generally
speaking NO. The Theory Test is contracted out to a private
company and works within the guidelines set by the Driving
Standards Agency. The Driving Standards Agency is proud of it's
performance standards for the Theory Test. More often than
not, you will be able to get a theory test date within about a
week.
